Should the focus for pipeline condition assessment be on the largest diameter pipelines, the most strategic, or the ones with the greatest operational and maintenance issues? Clients want to understand which of their assets to prioritize when undertaking condition assessment.
At COLE we understand the balance of likelihood of failure with consequence of failure in order to strategically assess the impact of pipeline failure on the network. This includes not just targeting the right pipelines for assessment, but understanding how the system will operate with those pipelines out of service. COLE strives to make the best use of non-destructive techniques in order to ensure uninterrupted service to customers is maintained as far as possible. Once the condition assessment work has been carried out, analyses can be made looking at the loads placed upon the pipelines, and the current strength of the pipeline to resist those loads. From here, a prioritised rehabilitation and repair strategy can be developed.
The COLE team also has extensive experience of assessing pipeline failures. These can tell us a lot about the causes of pipeline deterioration, and can greatly help in targeting future works.
