Brownfield sites are developed lands where the soil and/or groundwater are contaminated through previous land use activities resulting in exposure to the risks and liabilities associated with adverse impacts to human health and the natural environment. These sites have historically been overlooked for development consideration due to the inherently high remediation costs, often deemed to exceed the value of the property.
