In anticipation of the 2015 Pan / Parapan American Games to be held in Toronto, an Athletes’ Village has been constructed on an 80 acre (32 hectare) site which sits adjacent to the Don River in Toronto’s waterfront region. Located east of downtown Toronto, the village will be the home for 10,000 athletes, coaches and team officials throughout the course of the games, and will feature a range of conveniences and amenities.
Cole Engineering was retained by EllisDon Corporation, as a member of a design build project team, in order to ensure the village would be ready for the Games. Construction of supporting infrastructure on the site included: the removal of contaminated soil; decommissioning of existing monitoring wells; municipal works; and, site services. Cole Engineering staff provided engineering services in relation to construction administration of all the site services required for the Athletes’ Village. The project was designed to meet Gold LEED Standards and the City of Toronto Green Sustainability Standards.
